SIEMA Signed MoU With Orbitz

The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association (SIEMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Orbitz Exhibitors to organise an engineering exhibition here from April 9 to 11, 2010. Jayakumar Ramdass, president of the association, told presspersons here on Sunday that the focus of the exhibition would be light engineering, sub-contracting, foundries, rotating machinery and pumpset sectors.

About 250 participants were expected to display their products and a large number of international visitors were likely to attend. He said that the 10-year agreement, signed here on Sunday, would focus on organising exhibitions related to engineering sector at regular intervals (once in two years). Coimbatore had a number of micro, small and medium enterprises. Not all the units had the capability to provide an international exposure to their products or go abroad to participate in international trade fairs. The event to be held here would have products, equipment and processes.

Orbitz would organise and promote the event and the association would help finalise the profile of participants and speakers for the concurrent conferences. “This is a product-focused exhibition and will result in a number of business tie-ups,” he said. When international brands displayed their products here, the micro and small units would have a technical awareness of overseas requirements. Pankaj Chaudhary, regional manager of Orbitz, said it had offices in Germany and Dubai and tie-up with other organisations to promote its events. All sectors to be covered at the trade fair were inter-related. Majority of exhibitors would be from India. They would showcase their products and technology.

Germany was known for the sector-specific exhibitors. When trade fairs were organised in foreign countries, just about 15 per cent of entrepreneurs in the respective sector went from here. However, when these manufacturers came to India, they could address a larger audience, he said. The brochure for the event would be ready in a month. This was the first time the association was organising an exhibition for specific sectors. It had more than 10 months to market the event and expected a large number of overseas visitors.
