One more international flight from Coimbatore

The Sri Lankan airlines has decided to launch air services to Coimbatore from the end of this month, making it the 11th destination to India.Beginning its operations to Coimbatore from October 29, the airlines will initially operate four flights a week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, a airlines spokesman said in Colombo adding it will be plying Airbus-A320 for this route.The airlines already has services to Trivandrum, Kozhikode and Kochi in Kerala and two in Tamil Nadu namely Chennai and Trichy.Sri Lankan airlines has positioned Colombo as the gateway to India and we are continuously increasing our services there, the CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines Peter Hill said.

This included the addition of more and more cities across India to our route network and we are proud to add Coimbatore in this list, Hill told the Colombo-based The Island newspaper."Sri Lankan airlines is very familiar with the travel requirements of South Indian passengers and we take great care in providing the best facilities to them", the regional manager of Indian subcontinent and Maldives Senaka Fernando said on the decision to add Coimbatore to the list of the airlines' destination.Sri Lankan Airlines carried a staggering 1.1 million passengers to and from India in the 12 months from April 2006 to March 2007, which constituted 32 per cent of the airlines global traffic.An airline statement said Sri Lankan Airlines has won many awards for its operations to India including the Galileo Indian Express Award for best east bound international airline.
