Corp Stepped Up Disconnection Of Water Supply
Disconnection of water supply line of a private hospital at Pappanaickenpalayam for reported default in remittance of tax
The hospital management gave a cheque for Rs. 29 lakh under protest. The officials clarified that the hospital management was citing a High Court order of 1989 (wherein the court had stated that if the hospital was a charitable organisation then the tax slabs should be revised) and resisting the payment of tax as well as disconnection. The hospital added too many new constructions over the last 20 years and the tax arrears had accumulated to Rs. 1.10 crore. The Corporation has decided to issue fresh notices for assessing the tax to be paid by the hospital, especially in the wake of the new constructions.
The authorities said that they had realised Rs. 32 crore out of total property tax of Rs. 44 crore. Of the tax arrears of Rs. 48 lakh, the officials said that more than Rs. 24 lakh had already been realised. They said that within the next few days, the drive would be stepped up to realise the maximum tax arrears as well as the current tax demand.
