EC's Review Meeting

Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta (left) addressing a meeting of District Collectors in the city on Friday.Electors Photo Identity Card Centres in all the 234 Assembly Constituencies in Tamil Nadu would become operational in a month’s time, the Chief Electoral Officer, Naresh Gupta said.He was talking to reporters here on Friday after holding a review meeting that was attended by Electoral Roll Registration Officers from Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris.
State had covered almost 97.9 per cent of the voters

Mr.Gupta said that though major infrastructural works for the centre had already been completed, the department was waiting for some equipment.This was expected to arrive in a fortnight, the Chief Electoral Officer said.After that, the software would be connected through State-Wide Area Network (WAN).He said that these centres which would enable the voters to have identity cards with photographs and would function from the taluk offices in rural areas and municipal areas in towns depending on availability of necessary facilities at these places.

Each Electors Photo Identity Card centre would have necessary officers who in turn would be imparting training to the remaining staff.These centres could be made use of by the electors for replacement of their cards and also for the purpose of getting the required corrections relating to data and particulars carried out for them.On Photo Voter Rolls, Mr.Gupta said that the State had covered almost 97.9 per cent of the voters and except Kancheepuram all the districts had finalised the rolls.As far as Coimbatore was concerned, the final rolls with 97 per cent voter coverage would be released on March 10, he said.
