Multi-tier Parking Fesi
Eight infrastructure providers are said to have submitted expression of interest to the Coimbatore Corporation in establishing multi-tier parking lots at three places in the city.The Corporation has drawn up a Rs.200-crore project for the lots, under the Central Government’s infrastructure development programme, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.The facilities will come up near Cross-Cut Road at Gandhipuram, D.B. Road at R.S. Puram and Oppanakara Street near Ukkadam
Corporation officials say the expressions of interest were being processed and the project will be implemented on a design-build-operate and transfer basis. The service provider will have to design the parking facilities according to the requirements of the city for the next 20 to 30 years.The project has been conceived on the basis of the Corporation’s study of the parking space shortage in the city. The facilities will come up near Cross-Cut Road at Gandhipuram, D.B. Road at R.S. Puram and Oppanakara Street near Ukkadam.These areas are the commercial centres of the city, with most of the establishments being shops. All the three roads face severe shortage of space for parking as most of the buildings do not have parking space.
