Inspection At Seed Farms

Joint Director of Seed Inspection K. Rangasamy and Assistant Director of Seed Certification P. Palanikumar inspected seed farms in the district recently.According to an official release, the inspection was to check whether the paddy varieties certified by the Tamil Nadu Seed Certification Department were being used to produce the certified paddy seeds. The paddy varieties such as ADT43, ADT(R) 45, ADT37, IW Ponni, etc, were being used in more than 500 acres for producing around 800 tonnes of quality certified seeds.

Many seed farms were also being raised under the (SRI) technique

Many Government, quasi-Government and private seed producers have organised seed farms and are registered under the Certification Department. Many seed farms were also being raised under the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technique.Mr. Rangasamy emphasised the importance of off types, SRI techniques, plant protection and post-harvest technology for improving the quality of seeds as well as the productivity of seed farms.
