Online Payment Of Corp Launched

People in the city now have the option of paying Property Tax and water charges online, using their credit or debit cards. The new system enables a 24-hour payment facility through the internet and, therefore, there is no holiday for tax payment. Sitting at home, people can use their credit cards and pay the taxes in what is described by the Corporation as yet another measure to simplify the collection process and make it more people-friendly. They need not queue up at the tax counters of the Corporation offices, its computerised facilitation centres or even at the special counters at the banks.
Mayor R. Venkatachalam inaugurated the facility at the Corporation office

Mayor R. Venkatachalam inaugurated the facility at the Corporation office on Wednesday. Deputy Mayor N. Karthik and officials and councillors were present. This payment gateway is part of the e-governance initiated some years ago. The Corporation has even won the Government’s award for best e-governance. The payment gateway concept was mooted more than five years ago, but has become a reality only now. Under this system, people can log on to the Coimbatore Corporation’s website, click on ‘Credit Card Payment’ mentioned on the home page.

This will take them to the page iNET Collection. Here, they have to click on ‘select’ to choose Property Tax or water charge. Or, payments under both head can be made one after the other. After selecting the service, they have to enter their tax assessment number in the adjacent column. This will then lead the payer through other procedures, including entering the credit card number and the tax amount. Users can also go through various terms and conditions listed on this page. The list of conditions says that users should pay 1.85 per cent of the tax amount (of each assessment) as transaction cost.
