People Protest Against TNHB
About 300 residents of some villages on the city outskirts today staged a sit-in in front of the camp office of the District Collector, to protest what they called 'acquisition' of agricultural land by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board for residential purposes.
Police said the villagers, mainly farmers, of Kalapatti, Veerakeralam and Vilankurichi, including 100 women, went in a procession to the camp office on Race Course road and squatted in front of the office.Representatives of the farmers, who were called in by the Collector, Neeraj Mittal, informed him that the board was attempting to purchase agricultural land to convert it into residential plots and sought his intervention.Mittal assured them that he would look into the matter and find a solution, including getting a higher price for the land thus acquired, within four weeks, official sources saidBoard was attempting to purchase agricultural land
