A study is on to finalise the citizen-centric services that can be brought under the e-district project. Submitting grievance petitions or getting a land-related certificate or document can become easier soon in the district with the e-district project getting ready. Commissioner for e-governance Neeraj Mittal told that a study was on to finalise the citizen-centric services that could be brought under the project in Coimbatore district, one of the five selected in the State for the e-district pilot project. If efforts were taken to ensure that the requests were disposed of properly, the system would benefit the citizens to a great extent.
With an initial sanction of about Rs. 12 crore for the five districts from the Central Government, consultancy works had started. He said that places such as taluk office had a lot of citizen-centric activity every day. The aim was to bring some of these services, especially those under the direct control of the District Collector, grievance redressal and revenue-related under the project and to cover the entire back-end works also under e-governance gradually.
Explaining the benefits, Mr. Mittal said, in the case of grievance redressal, one could save time in travelling and following the procedures for submission of a petition if the service was computerised. It could be accepted at the local citizen service centre. The application could be received and registered at the centre and transferred to the official concerned or department for follow-up.
If efforts were taken to ensure that the requests were disposed of properly, the system would benefit the citizens to a great extent. The project was still in conceptualisation stage. The report of the study would be ready in a week. It would enumerate the services to be taken up under the project and what improvements could be made in the delivery system of these services. The execution would take 18 months and would be implemented by a different agency, he said. “Prioritisation of services is going on,” he said.
