DMK Office Attacked
The thatched roof of the DMK’s district office at North Coimbatore was partially destroyed in a fire in the wee hours of Thursday, suspected to be the handiwork of some miscreants. The incident has taken place at a time when the DMK has severed its ties with the PMK. Posters were pasted in Coimbatore on Wednesday night criticising PMK leader Ramadoss and hailing DMK chief Karunanidhi’s move. Police suspect that irked over this, someone would have done it, though they have ‘no strong evidence.’ Stating that the possibility of an inter- party feud could not be ruled out, police said they were investigating the incident.
It was also alleged that a petrol bomb could have been hurled on to the roof. Both the police and partymen have said they have no evidence for it since neither a bottle was seen nor the broken pieces of glass. According to police, building incharge Dhandapani heard someone pelting stones at the building around 3.45 am. Later, around 4.15 am, neighbours informed him about the fire on the roof.Kattoor police and fire and rescue services personnel arrived and doused the fire. The fire damaged a portion of the roof, police said.
