Short Film For HIV/AIDS Infected Children

Short-film on children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS was recently released by Native Medicare Charitable Trust, an organisation that supports over 300 children who have been affected by the disease in Coimbatore. The 15-minute film documents the lives of these children. “The film will be circulated among organisations working for the welfare of people with HIV/AIDS and other welfare organisations, as it captures their struggle for survival,” said A.S.Sankaranarayanan, Director of NMCT.

The film, however, would not be used for commercial circulation, he added. “There is a need to make people aware of the problems faced by these children. They are excluded by society and even schools deny them admission owing to their HIV positive status,” he said. The film also discussed the activities of ‘Rojakootam,’ a group formed by the children who have been infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. The members of the group met every month and devised solutions to their problems in a collaborative manner.
