In this age of stiff competition, one needs to strive for excellence, Mahesh Verma, Director, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi, said here on Saturday. Delivering the graduation address of Sri Ramakrishna Dental College and Hospital, he said more than 22,000 graduates were passing out of dental schools every year. If they wanted to make a mark in the profession, they needed to continue the process of education.

About 700 scientific papers were published every day all over the world. “There is a need to learn every day,” Dr.Verma said. The Dental Council of India had brought out regulations on continuing dental education. According to the regulations, a dentist ought to undergo at least 20 hours of dental education a year. At the end of five years, he or she would have completed 100 hours of dental education. This continuous education helped them retain their focus and keep up-to-date with the developments in dentistry.
