TACT Seeks Remedial Measures

The Tamil Nadu Association of Cotton and Micro Enterprises have appealed to the State Government to take remedial measures immediately for the power shortage. In a release, the association president, J. James, has said that the industries in the State were seeking action to set right the problem for the last 11 months.

The units in Coimbatore even stopped production for a day in October. However, now the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board had now announced 20 per cent cut for micro units too that exceeded the permitted level of monthly power consumption. The Government should support operation of generator sets by the industries for captive generation and consumption. It should enhance generation at the existing capacities and make use of the facilities in the sugar mills.

Operation of textile mills was paralysed by the power shortage and the domestic industries were suffering with drop in production. The problem faced by the textile mills was affecting the small and tiny units in this region as a large number of these units manufactured spares and components for textile machinery. The association hence pleaded that the Government should immediately announce measures to protect the domestic industries.
