Kongu Vellala Gounder's Political Party Launched

The Kongu Vellala Gounder Peravai, which claims a support base of 1.5 crore Kongu Vellala Gounders in the western belt of the State, launched its political party at its Political Renaissance Conference here on Sunday.

The party – Kongunadu Munnetra Peravai – will contest from 12 Lok Sabha constituencies and 50 Assembly seats in the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, the Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Dindigul. This was announced by the party’s president ‘Best’ S. Ramaswamy. He said E.R. Easwaran was the general secretary of the party. Mr. Ramaswamy is the president of the non-political peravai also.


Some of the resolutions passed at the conference were: reservation for the community members in colleges, Government jobs and for the posts of judges and vice-chancellors; an end to the misuse of the Protection of Civil Rights Act; an amendment to it to provide for bail; Rs.2,500 a tonne as procurement price for sugarcane; implementation of Pandiaru-Punnampuzha and Avinash-Athikadavu schemes and permission to tap toddy.
