Enriched Eggs launched ..

A city-based company has launched selenium enriched eggs, which were claimed to be of help in fighting diseases like arthiritis pain.

The eggs under the brand name 'super egg,' contain selenium, a natural antioxidant, which was proven to help prevent heart attacks, reduce arthiritis pain and regulate blood sugar levels, Balaji P B of Eggxtra Foods, a sisten concern of Chandra Poultry Farm, said in a release on Sunday.

Selenium enrichment in the egg was made possible by feeding hens with a special diet rich in selenium sources and each egg contained more than 50 per cent of daily selenium requirements.Stating that each superegg is cleaned, graded based on weight and printed with logo and expiry date, Balaji said date is printed on each egg so that consumers get only fresh egg.

The product is available in all the major towns in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, Balaji said.

Egg-Less Desserts' Festival

The Residency, Coimbatore, has for the first time initiated a month-long `egg-less desserts' festival. Egg-less cakes, according to Chef Ashok, has been in demand especially after the incidence of the bird-flu. "We therefore decided on the `egg-less dessert' theme."

It plans to offer four different flavours of cheese cakes, six varieties of pie and eight tortes.

New Hotel Management College

Good Shepherd International School at nearby Udhagamandalam (Ooty), today launched a three-year programme of Bachelor's Degree of International Business (BIB) in Hotel and Tourism Management from Cesar Ritz College, Switzerland. All the students will study at the new Good Shepherd College of Hotel Management for the first two years and complete a six month industrial training as stipulated by the curriculum of Ritz College, Dr P C Thomas, Principal of the School told reporters here.

On successful completion of the two-year programme, students will proceed to Switzerland, for their final year of studies, which will be followed by a paid industrial training of 22 weeks in order to get international exposure, he said. There was large employment opportunities for hotel managers, as 35 five-star hotels are to be constructed in India in the next two years, he said adding the programme aimed at creating the new managers and leaders of a booming hotel and tourism industry. The curriculum focuses on practical as well as theoretical subjects like culinary studies, food service studies and operations, wine and beverage, restaurant showmanship and gastronomy, Thomas said.

CookieMan to land at Coimbatore Airport

Australia’s cookie major CookieMan, through its franchisee Australian Foods India Private Ltd, is contemplating setting up kiosks at three major airports in the country – the newly-opened Hyderabad international airport along with Delhi and Coimbatore airports.

While, other retail majors such as HMS Host, Blue Foods Private Ltd, Café Coffee Day and Hard Rock Café have set up shops at the new Hyderabad airport, McDonald’s and Hog Dog brands will open at New Delhi airport along with Café Coffee Day and Cookie-Man.

Pattabhi Rama Rao, president, Australian Foods India Private Ltd, told FE, “We are planning to set up CookieMan kiosks in upcoming airports. We also wanted to set up acounter in Mumbai, but could not do so owing to lack of space.” An official from the Airports Authority of India said,

With real estate prices touching new highs in these cities, airports offer a viable option for retail players. Duty free is the biggest potential revenue generator for airports as well as retaillers.”

These airports are relying on commercial activities to raise additional resources.

Hyderabad biryani soon at Coimbatore

Restaurants in Hyderabad seem to be on an expansion mode. While Hyderabad House, one of the best known brands in the city is going global, another food chain Ohri’s is planning to enter other cities in the country including Bangalore, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad.Hyderabad House, which serves the famous Hyderabadi biryani will have franchisee outlets in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. “New outlets are also coming up in the US, UK and Malaysia and each of them will require an investment of Rs 1 crore. Some more branches might be set up in India as well. The cost for each of these will be around Rs 60-70 lakh.” Mir Mazharuddin, managing director of Hyderabad House said.

Hyderabad House has a turnover of around Rs 7 crore and has ten outlets in prime localities in the city. It has also started serving Chinese cuisines in its new restaurant Bowl O’ China. “We are looking at opening 3-4 more outlets here,” he said. Meanwhile, Ohris’, a Rs 50-crore company, is set to open an exclusive sizzlers restaurant and food court to be called Munch Towns.”We will have sizzlers of all kinds including Indian, Chinese and continental. The restaurant in the city will start off by the first week of September,” said Amar Ohri, executive director, Ohri’s. After Hyderbad, Ohri’s has plans to open shop in Bangalore, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad. “We have already started a food court in Kolkata,” Amar Ohri said. The company is also planning to give a new identity to the food courts. “While most food courts in Hyderabad have a common kitchen for all cuisines, there will be different kitchens for each of our cuisines,“ he said. He claims that prices in these food courts will be reasonable as the target would be the middle class. The food courts will also have Mughlai, Chinese and continental cuisines, besides Indian cuisine.
