Foundry Complex In Kallapalayam

Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA) handed over site documents on Sunday to beneficiaries of the Foundry Complex coming up at Kallapalayam, 22 km from the city.

Association president G. Rajendran told presspersons here on Saturday that the complex would have 27 foundries, including non-ferrous, cast iron and steel foundries and machine shops. COINDIA provided all common facilities at the 27-acre complex at a cost of Rs. 1.4 crore. With the handing over of the site documents, the units would develop their worksheds in 12 to 18 months.

The complex was developed in association with Coimbatore Foundry and Industry Owners Association (COFIOA). The COINDIA project was launched in 2005 and so far projects worth Rs. 55 crore were completed. This included common modern tool rooms, foundry complexes and rapid prototyping machines. Almost 97 per cent of the programmes planned in the project was completed and 75 per cent of it was commissioned.

The first foundry complex came up at Arasur on 102 acres at a cost of Rs. 5 crore for common facilities. The second one was in Kallapalayam and the third one at Manickampalayam. A total of 192 units would come up on 180 acres in these three complexes. These were not only relocating from the city, but also expanding and modernising the facilities. At Kallapalayam, about Rs. 25 crore would be invested by the units in the first phase for plant and machinery. Mr. Rajendran said the units were allotted a minimum of 25 cents each. Some of the common facilities provided were crèche, laboratory and meeting halls.

Ban Iron Ore Export - Foundry Urged

The foundry industry urged the Centre to impose a ban on iron ore export to China so as to arrest a massive unemployment problem. "Though China is the major benefactor of iron ore exports from India, they do not export coke to India as the Chinese government is encouraging export of components and finished goods only. The finished products of iron ore coming out of China cost 25 percent less than those from India.

This affects Indian exports," claimed Jagadeesan, chairman of The Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Coimbatore, during a press conference here on Wednesday. Jagadeesan said there is an unprecedented increase in prices of raw materials like pig iron, coke, steel and scrap every month, sometimes even within two or three days.``International customers do not appreciate the changes in price very often.

This puts the foundry industry at a heavy loss,'' he said and added that the industry was also affected by the dollar depreciation. According to Ilango, Vice President of the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), China is trying to destroy the Indian market and stressed that the government should either ban or control exports. Coimbatore, being one of the largest foundry centres with 600 foundries and over 1 lakh people employed, bears the brunt as the cast iron export has come down last year. The region produces about five lakh tonnes and exports cast iron worth Rs 1,000 crores per annum.

Liners India new foundry @ Coimbatore

CYLINDER LINER manufacturer Liners India is readying its greenfield foundry in Coimbatore to make static castings at an estimated investment of Rs 40 crore. Liner’s thrust to tap newer opportunities in the automotive space will also find it setting up a 100% export oriented unit for steel liners in Chennai as a joint venture with a leading European engineering firm. This facility, meant for export to the US, is likely to be operational by September and will produce 30,000 steel liners a month, CMD S Ganesh told.

Liners is a major manufacturer of centrifugally-cast cylinders and produces two million cylinder liners annually. Its products find application with the automotive sector and the railways. Its Vijayawada facility melts 42 tonnes a day.Liners has acquired four acres near Coimbatore for the 25,000-tonnes per annum capacity foundry. ‘‘Our vision is to become a key player in the auto component business. The new ventures will link us in strategic tie-ups with machine manufacturers. Besides, lots of companies abroad are looking at India as a potential market as well as a low-cost manufacturing destination,’‘ he said.On funding, Mr Ganesh said the company may go public next year. Currently, private equity and internal accruals are being tapped for the Coimbatore project.Liners India has also picked up a 30% stake in a company in Gummudipondi. The new facility will have the capacity to melt 15 tonnes a day and will manufacture centrifugal castings. It has also set up an unit in Uttaranchal to serve the aftermarket. Liners India had a turnoverof Rs 50 crore during the last fiscal and is eyeing a turnover of Rs 75 crore .

LMW Foundry bags Green Foundry Award-2006

This is the time for recognition of Coimbatore Foundries. LMW Foundry gets award this time.

The foundry division of Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) received the Gargi Huttenes-Albertus Green Foundry Award for 2006. A release from the company said that the chairman of the Institute of Indian Foundrymen, V. Krishnamurthy, presented the award to V. Devarajan, the foundry division head of LMW.

Coimbatore Amex Alloys bags "Best Foundry 2006" award

Coimbatore-based Amex Alloys Private Limited has received the Lakshman Rao Kirloskar Award for the year 2006, for the `Best Foundry 2006'.

According to a release issued, the award was given away at a recent meeting of the Institute of Indian Foundrymen held in Agra.
