Agri Expo 2008 At CODISSIA

A dealer explaining the functioning of an equipment to a visitor at the Indian Agri Expo 2008 at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore on Friday. Indian Agri Expo 2008 that began on Friday at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex has on display the latest in agriculture. Farm implements, equipment, seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, protective paraphernalia, pumps and a whole array of nurseries are on offer in the 150 stalls.

The show stopper at the entrance is the terracotta pottery by Goa Potteries. Show pieces, vases, pots, lamps and large flower floaters in various sizes and shapes and in a beautiful blend of original terracotta colour with black beckon the visitor. According to the organisers – Global Vision – farmers and industry personnel can find many of the products here useful in their everyday working. Tractor oil, pumps, environment measurement equipment, PVC pipes, novel sowing equipment, different forms of plastics, electric saws, mosquito and insect proofing materials and repellents are available.



In the heavy equipment category, there are attractive tractors, agrovators and thrasher machines. “People from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and West Bengal have also put up stalls. The stalls do not have many consumer durables on display. It is mainly concentrated on agricultural products,” says G. Suresh of Global Vision. Food processing and post-harvest technology methods have been highlighted. Tips can be obtained on contract and organic farming. Value-added products like jams, pickles, pastes, squashes, juices, masala powders, health drinks, etc., manufactured by companies, are available for sale.



There are stalls put up by the Government departments, the Coir Board, Coconut Development Board, Spices Board, Coffee Board, etc. Their respective products are available for sale. For the layman, besides the pottery, electric bikes are a must see. They will also get an opportunity to choose from innovative coir and coconut products, and aromatic coffee and spices. The exhibition, inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University C. Ramasamy, will be on till December 14.
