Action is being initiated against mills in and around Sulur area that were found to have employed 73 adolescents. Collector P. Umanath ordered a drive against child labour on August 5. Accordingly, a team of officials led by Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories K. Kaliannan, National Child Labour Abolition Project Director D. Vijaykumar, Inspectors of factories Manoharan, Vimala, Sabeena, Project Advisor, R. Kumaravel and staff inspected 57 mills in Sulur, Peedampalli, Pattanampudur, Pattanam, Chinthamanipudur, Kannampalayam, Kalangal and Appanaickenpatti areas. The team did not come across any employee in the age group of less than 14. However, the officials found adolescents in the age group of 14 to 18. Action is being initiated against the mills.
