“This is an acute coronary syndrome, but does not require a surgery. He also had gastric problem. An electro cardiogram done on him immediately did not reveal any problem. He went home that day and got himself admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning for a thorough check-up. A cardiac computed tomography scan detected a block in an artery in the heart, Dr. Bakthavathsalam said. But, cardiologists Y.Y. Rao and C. Balasubramaniam, who examined the Minister and the scan images, said he need not have to undergo a bypass surgery or an angioplasty, as the block was below 40 per cent. This could be managed with drugs, they said.
