Coimbatore Region: Income tax collection up

Coimbatore: The Income Tax collection during the current fiscal up to December 2006 was Rs. 900 crores as compared to that of Rs. 700 crores last year, indicating good response towards payment of income tax, said O.P. Sachan, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Coimbatore Region.
Mr.Sachan from Faizabad assumed charge on Saturday, replacing C.R. Ravichandran, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chennai I, who was holding additional charge of Coimbatore.
O.P. Sachan belongs to the 1973 batch of Indian Revenue Service.

In a release, Mr.Sachan said that the target for tax collection for the current fiscal (both Corporate tax and personal income tax) was Rs. 1,325 crores as against the Rs 1,155 crores last year. This year (fiscal) up to December 2006, Rs. 900 crore had been collected as tax as against the Rs. 700 crore during the same period last year.

In terms of percentage, the current year's tax collection up to December 2006 was about 67 per cent of the target fixed as against the 60 per cent collected during the same period last year.
There are about 3.25 lakh assess in three districts falling under the Coimbatore region.
