Tata Gold Plus Plans Tirupur
Tata Industries plans to open 80 Gold Plus showrooms throughout the country in the next three years, C.K. Venkatraman, chief operating officer of Titan Industries, said here on Thursday. Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating a showroom, fifth in the State, Mr. Venkatraman said that showrooms would be inaugurated at Tirupur, Karur, Vellore and Tirunelveli.
Tata Gold Plus, including Tanishq (diamonds), had done a business of Rs. 780 crore last year. This year's plan is to do a business of Rs. 1,200 crore. The aim of Tata Gold Plus is to create awareness of gold purity and set new jewellery standards, Mr. Venkatraman said.
At present the company has a manufacturing unit at Hosur with machinery worth Rs. 50 crore. Another semi-manufacturing unit would be put up at Dehradhun soon. L.R. Nadarajan, vice-president, Titan Industries, said that Tata Gold Plus gave importance to purity, design, quality and variety. Quality was ensured by purchasing Reaserve Bank of India-certified gold from foreign banks. Machineries have been imported from Switzerland and Japan. The company had secured ISO 9001 certificate and has 500 workers in the manufacturing unit and 3,000 vendors. There are as many as 20,000 designs.
An extensive range of over 3,000 designs, consisting of 22kt plain gold and diamond jewellery, would be available.
