Bharathiar University starting Nanotechnology course
UGC Aids Coimbatore Bharathiyar UniversityThe University Grants Commission(UGC) has extended financial assistance to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore for starting advanced PG diploma course in nanotechnology and infrastructure development in biotechnology department.
UGC has sanctioned Rs 28 lakh to the department of physics to start an Advanced Post-Graduate Diploma course in nanotechology, a university release said. With intake of 15 students, the duration of the course would be one year with two semesters, with theory and practical papers and a project work.
Synthesis of nanoparticles, nano device fabrication and the characterisation were included in the syllabus. The students would have an opportunity to work in the facilities of plasma, thin film and solid-state physics laboratories.
Candidates who have passed their M.Sc. physics / chemistry / materials science exams would be eligible for admission to the course, which is designed to be job-oriented, the release added.
The department of biotechnology has been given Rs 42.50 lakh for procuring sophisticated instruments and other recurring expenses, the release said.
