Syndicate Bank targets more customers
Syndicate Bank expanding customer baseCoimbatore: Syndicate Bank hopes to increase its customer base to over 20 million by the end of next financial year.
The Chairman and Managing Director of the bank, C.P. Swarnkar, told presspersons here recently that during the last 11 months the bank had added two million customers. The current customer base was about 19.5 million. It hoped to add about three million more next year.
Mr. Swarnkar said that the focus was on enhancing the customer base and do mass banking. "We want every eligible person to open an account," he said.
The schemes launched by the bank were for different segments such as farmers, drivers and students. It planned to introduce more schemes last year. "It can be for factory workers. We can also launch a scheme for those joining any profession or service for the first time as they need credit to meet their immediate needs," he said.
Coimbatore region had 64 branches and 63 of them were covered under core banking. This is one of the first regions of the bank to have almost all branches under connectivity. With a lot of industries, small-scale industries and agriculture, the region offered potential for growth.
The bank had about 2,110 branches at the national level and was adding more branches every year.
