Book fair @ Coimbatore

A book fair with 200 stalls displaying two crore books of two lakh titles will be open to the public from May 16 to May 27, R.S. Shanmugam, secretary of the Booksellers' and Publishers' Association of South India, told a press conference here on Saturday.The fair, first of its kind in magnitude in Coimbatore, would see nearly 150 publishers from Tamil Nadu as well as from other States.

Tamil, English and Malayalam books would cater to all types of readers in all age groups. The books would carry a 10 per cent discount. Educational books for school children, college goers and professionals would find a place in the fair.There would be events like quiz, debate, drawing competitions and literary programmes every evening. Food stalls would be put up at convenient places outside the stalls. The 200 stalls would be housed under a `pandal' at the VOC Park and would be open to the public from 11.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. From May 17 every afternoon from 3 p.m. onwards Indian and international short films and documentaries would be screened in a separate enclosure.


The entry for children up to 12 years of age would be free, while adults would have to pay Rs. 2. Prizes would be given away and lucky draws would be held at the end of each day.
