Ooty Summer Festival starts on May 12
With the season related activities scheduled to begin on Saturday the district machinery is now in a state of preparedness to ensure that they go off without a hitch, said the Nilgiris Collector Santosh K.Misra here on Thursday.Addressing a press conference, he said that the Summer Festival would begin with a Rose Show on May 12. Simultaneously the curtain would go up on the cultural events.
Mr. Misra said most of the cultural events would be organised at the Breeks HADP Open Air Stadium here. The South Zone Cultural Centre would bring five groups from various places including Orissa, Karnataka and Puducherry.For the convenience of the budget tourists, circuit buses connecting various tourist spots had been introduced for the first time by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. While the number of circuit buses plying during the weekdays was three, one more was added during the weekends.
The Collector said that the health officials in the civic administration had been asked to carry out surprise checks in hotels and eateries to ensure that the standard of sanitation was good. Public conveniences would be kept clean.Regretting that complaints about the condition of the national highway leading to Udhagamandalam and beyond were mounting, Mr. Misra said that the matter had been taken up with the appropriate authorities. They had also been informed about the chances of major accidents occurring on the road on account of its deplorable condition. High-risk stretches were in the process of being attended to. Harassment of motorists at tollgates would be viewed seriously.Safety measures would be strengthened at scenic spots such as the Pykara falls.
