Session For School Correspondents And Secretaries

Governance in schools is ineffective, the teaching methodology out-dated and the link between the school and the community is weak, Giridhar Gyani, Secretary General of Quality Council of India said here recently. Addressing a session organised for school correspondents and secretaries by the PSG Sarvajana Higher Secondary School, he said the emphasis should be on the holistic development of the child and institutionalising excellence in schools. Institutions that gave affiliation and recognition to schools acted as regulatory bodies.

But, infrastructure facilities, assessment of curricular performance, and health and ethical values were to be ensured by the decision makers of the school – correspondents in the case of minority and matriculation schools and secretaries in aided private schools. The Quality Council of India, a non-Governmental organisation in Delhi that gave accreditation to laboratories, had decided to constitute a committee and a pool of assessors for giving accreditation to schools. Nearly 900 Kendriya Vidyalayas had opted for this scheme, he said. The council would conduct a meeting for the correspondents, secretaries and heads of schools in May to make them aware of the need for maintenance of quality in schools. It would also train senior teachers as assessors.

These teachers might also be in the pool of assessors who grant accreditation to schools under the strict supervision of the council, he said. Correspondents and secretaries of all aided schools of Coimbatore Revenue District and a few matriculation schools in Coimbatore and Tirupur attended the session.
