Rotaract Clubs of Coimbatore and GE Volunteers inaugurated a play ground on the premises of the Juvenile Home here. They installed a barbed wire fencing at Rs.1.5 lakh and along with CRI Pumps, provided play materials and recreation facilities at Rs. 40,000 for the play ground (2,400 sq.ft.). A proposal has been prepared for providing toilet, kitchen, flooring and separate accommodation for children below the age of 10. The cost is estimated to be around Rs.12 lakh.
GE Volunteers and CRI Pumps are also planning to renovate the kitchen and store room at the home at an outlay of Rs.7 lakh.
The Rotaract District Representative, J.Sathish Kumar, donated Rs.1.5 lakh for the fence, which he won as prize money. GE Volunteers and CRI Pumps are also planning to renovate the kitchen and store room at the home at an outlay of Rs.7 lakh. The facilities were opened by the Commissioner of e-Governance, Neeraj Mittal. He advised the children at the home to change their mindset and make an honest effort to reform and join their parents within three to four months.
The administration could provide facilities. But, the willingness to change should come from the inmates, he said. The inmates should also realise that they were only victims of circumstances and should strive to change themselves and make their lives better. Those coming back to the home should only come for the purpose of helping the other inmates to come up in life, Mr.Mittal said. District Collector V.Palanikumar said children ended up as offenders only out of ignorance. Hence, the objective of the home was to reform them and not to punish them.
