Demand For Train Service Between Coimbatore and Jodhpur

The Rajasthani Sangh, Coimbatore, has appealed to the Railway Minister to concede their long pending demand for a train service between Coimbatore and Jodhpur either by introducing a new train or by extending the Jodhpur – Bangalore train up to Coimbatore. Secretary of the Association, Mahaveerchand Mehta, in a memorandum said that lakhs of people hailing from various parts of Rajasthan had been living in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode and Salem districts. The migrant population had to go to their home town for meeting family, conducting religious ceremonies, festivals and for performing other social and cultural rites/duties. Traders, industrialists and businessmen also visit Jodhpur for business purposes. With Coimbatore developing faster, visitors from Rajasthan were also on the rise for tourism, educational and hospital requirements.

At present, as there was no direct train from here to Jodhpur, people were forced to travel either to Chennai or Bangalore for the onward train. To help them, the Sangh suggested that a new weekly train could be introduced to Jodhpur from Coimbatore via Shoranur, Ratnagiri Vasai Road, Ahmedabad, Falna and Jodhpur, the Bangalore – Jodhpur train service could be extended to Coimbatore or the present Coimbatore to Rajkot train service via Ahmedabad on every Thursday could be converted into a bi-weekly train and one service could be to Rajkot via Ahmedabad as usual and another service to Jodhpur via Ahmedabad.
