Thirukkural Elocution Contest

Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram Group will organise a State-level Thirukkural elocution contest for school and college students in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.The preliminary rounds of the contest will be held on July 26 at Suburban Higher Secondary School here. Preliminary rounds will also be held at Chennai on July 19, Vellore on July 20, Salem on July 27, Tirunelveli on August 2, Madurai on August 3, Tiruchi on August 9 and Puducherry on August 10. The contestants will be divided into four groups – juniors (classes VI to VIII), seniors (classes IX and X), super seniors (classes XI and XII) and college (diploma/UG/PG courses).

An institution at the school-level can send in two entries in each category. Colleges can send six students (four students from UG and two from PG). The competition will be conducted in three rounds. After the preliminary rounds, the winners will be selected for semi-finals. The winners from semi-finals will qualify for the finals. The preliminary and the semi-finals will be held on the same day. The finals will be held on August 30 at Chennai.Winners in each group will be given Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 as first, second and third prizes. Participants will receive certificates of participation and the semi-finalists will be awarded a book.

Interested participants can collect the application forms from the nearest Shriram Chits branches or from Shriram Chits, Ayyappa Building, First Floor, 416-C, N.S.R.Road, Saibaba Colony, Coimbatore – 641011. Phone- 2450880. The last date for submitting the filled in application forms is July 10.
