CII Mooted Cluster For ERP

Implementing Enterprise Resource Planning will help organisations to optimise operations. The Coimbatore unit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has mooted a cluster project for select medium-scale units here to help them adopt Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions. Local CII chairman C.N. Ashok told that in order to face new challenges such as shorter time available to correct decisions and high risks, all information should be available to industry online.

Information Technology and automation integrated every department and ERP was one of the solutions. It would cover various departments of an organisation and provide integrated IT solutions. Hence, CII was considering a project jointly with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, Coimbatore Centre. Companies might take six months to one year to go online completely. “We want to work with units that have already done something on the information technology front and take them on an ERP journey,” he said.

Small and medium units often do not go in for ERP solutions because of the cost involved and the long time taken for implementation. With the cluster approach, the time and cost could be brought down. CII had taken up cluster programmes for manufacturing units. It was now looking at about five engineering-based units for the IT project. The details were yet to be finalised. The aim was to implement the project this year, he said.
