CMS New Academic Block Inaugurated

The role of the Government is important in ensuring country’s balanced economic growth encompassing all sectors of the economy and all sections of people, K. Sankaranarayanan, Governor of Nagaland, said here recently. Inaugurating the new academic block of the CMS Institute of Management Studies at Chinnavedampatti, he lamented that in the process of high growth of services and manufacturing sectors, agricultural growth had become sluggish.

“We cannot afford to ignore the agriculture sector. It will lead to food shortage that in turn will lead to high prices and slowing down of the economy. Academicians must study the relevant linkages and come up with models that can ensure the overall growth of the economy,” the Governor said. The economy was growing at nine per cent. However, “in the last few years we are also facing certain challenges. With the economy growing, there is also the danger of the factor of inflation. The Indian economy should be perceived from the point of the global economy. Whatever happens in one part of the world affects everyone”.

He added that global crude and commodity prices determined what policies various nations had to adopt. In such a scenario, market forces dominated how growth took place and how prices were determined. “In such a situation, we have to be careful how to ensure that we do not fall into a situation of haves and have nots.

When the management students complete their course and go into the market to take up responsible jobs, they should strive to see that situation does not occur,” Mr. Sankaranarayanan said. Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Rural Industries and Animal Husbandry Minister, G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, M.P. Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the CMS Educational and Charitable Trust, and V. Rajagopalan, Joint Director, Collegiate Education, Coimbatore, offered felicitations.
