Bhaskaran, Chief Executive Officer, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai, at the graduation ceremony of Sri Krishna Arts and Science College in Coimbatore on Saturday. As of now we are nowhere near the West and China in terms of infrastructure and business volume. This is because, reforms in education, health and other sectors are yet to keep pace with economic and financial sector reforms, R. Bhaskaran, Chief Executive Officer, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai, said here recently. Delivering the graduation day address of the Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, he said that recently there had been some slowing down of economic activities on account of oil and steel price, inflation and certain liquidity tightening on account of the monetary measures undertaken by the Reserve Bank of India. “Having said this, India has emerged the second fastest growing major economy. It has been said that in another 20 years India will be one of the super powers. Though there are conflicting analyses about the decade, it is clear that the driving force for that change will be young Indians like you possessing variety of skills to drive new business and technology initiatives,” Mr. Bhaskaran said.
He said India becoming a super power might not be difficult as the economy growth rate of 9.6 per cent in 2006-07 was the highest in the last 18 years. “It is important to note that the industrial and service sectors have been contributing to a major part of this growth, indicating possible structural transformation in the Indian economy,” he added. Nearly 200 candidates, including 12 rank holders, received degree certificates. Secretary R. Padmavathy, and Principal K. Sundararaman, of the college, spoke.
