The MetroPlus Weekend was launched at a glittering event at The Residency on Friday. Dignitaries from various walks of life graced the occasion. The Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Collector V. Palanikumar, Commissioner of Police K. C. Mahali , the Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation, V.K. Shanmugham , the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiyar University, G. Thiruvasagam, the president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, D. Balasundaram, the Chairperson of Siruthuli, Vanitha Mohan, and industrialist Rajshree Pathi, among others attended the launch. The MetroPlus Weekend is a 16 page tabloid that promises to deliver ‘48 hours in 16 Pages’.
The Weekend covers all the events happening in the city. There will be regular columns on food, fitness, music, travel, technology and people. Leading personalities of Coimbatore, the movers and shakers and those who have put Coimbatore on the map would be featured regularly. The tabloid has a lot to offer the young readers in fashion, education and entertainment. The lifestyle supplement introduces two new interactive columns for the readers, called ‘Caught Snapping’ — an invitation to readers to send in photographs of something funny or interesting they have observed; the other column is ‘Guess Who?’ — Readers have to identify correctly a blurred image of a celebrity. In both the competitions, there are attractive prizes to be won.
