Protest Against Removal Of Encroachments

Residents of Kulathupalayam blocking Tirupur - Somanur Road on Saturday in protest against the removal of encroachments, especially a temple near Andipalayam tank. Following violent protests that resulted in stoning of 11 buses in and around Tirupur , the police have deployed more personnel and arrested 13 activists of various Hindu fronts. The authorities on Friday had demolished nearly 20 houses and a temple that formed a part of the encroachment of the water body. On Saturday, activists of various Hindu fronts, condemning the demolition of the temple, resorted to protests. The protests turned violent as the day grew with stray incidents of stone-pelting.


Till evening, police sources said that as many as 11, nine Government and two private, buses were stoned. There were also reports of shop keepers being asked to close shops at Perumanallur Road, New Bus Stand and Velliangadu. Following the turn of events, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, G. Karthikeyan and Deputy Superintendent of Police, P. Muthuraj camped in trouble prone pockets with police reinforcements and brought the situation under control. Normal life has been restored, police said.
