SIEMA's Programme
Sandeep Garg, Energy Economist, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, speaking at a programme organised by the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association in Coimbatore on Tuesday. With discussion on for more than a couple of years on the standards and labelling programme for motors and pumps, the time has come for its implementation, according to Sandeep Garg, energy economist at the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. At a programme organised here on Tuesday by the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association, he said that the bureau insisted on performance parameters in the pumpsets to achieve higher energy efficiency. Discussions were on regarding energy efficiency norms for motors and pumps for the last fours years or so. “Energy is spoken of at every level in the country now,” he said. Every household had three or four mobile chargers. India was expected to become the largest base for mobile phones by 2012. Demand side management included energy conservation in use of various equipment.
“If we have issues and concerns on implementation of standards and labelling programme for motors and pumps, we will address it on the way,” he said. With a range of products brought under the programme, by 2010 it was expected that about 10,000 MW could be saved through energy efficiency equipment. G. Rajendran, chairman of the pump and motor panel of the association, said one of the main issues confronting the manufacturers was the marking fee that the manufacturers would have to pay to the bureau and the Bureau of Indian Standards in this programme. Jayakumar Ramdass, president of the association, spoke about the developments in the programme.
