In an effort to ensure road discipline and safety, the Coimbatore City Traffic Police has decided to display zero tolerance towards violation of road rules and in a drive conducted in the first week of October, the police booked 3,494 cases and realised a fine of Rs. 3.83 lakh. City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj had ordered for crackdown on traffic violators.
During the drive, motorists were booked for offences such as use of cellular phones while driving/riding, drunken driving, plying without insurance cover, plying without driving licence, over-speeding, using cargo vehicles for transportation of passengers and footboard travel on buses, a release said.
