“There is a slump right now in the above said areas. We want to revive the research and interest in smart machine tools. Now, 70 per cent of tools are imported from China, Korea and Japan. They are mostly used in automotive and aerospace industries. There is an urgent need to produce indigenous high capability machine tools. The workshop will address such issues,” Mr. Rudramoorthy said. P.V. Manoharan, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, said experts from abroad would interact with students, faculty, research scholars and industrialists drawn from various parts of India. The workshop would be inaugurated by N.K. Dhand, President, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association.
