Road Blockade:
Villagers staged a road blockade after the thatched roof of a temple at Ponayur on the Palakkad Road at Pollachi caught fire, early on Sunday. Alleging delay in fire services and police reaching the spot, villagers blocked traffic for an hour. Suspecting foul play, they demanded the arrest of those responsible for the incident. Police and Revenue officials assured them of action and persuaded them to disperse.
Office Bearers Elected:
The office bearers of the Coimbatore Jaggery Merchants’ Association have been elected for the years 2009-2011. C. Rajagopal has been elected president of the association, G.T. Parasuraman as vice-president, A. Kalifulla as secretary and S. Ravikumar as treasurer, according to a press release.
