Lane system planned on Avanashi Road


The City Police will undertake a study to ascertain the feasibilities for introducing lane system on Avanashi Road from the flyover till Lakshmi Mill Junction in the first phase, said Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, P. Sivanandi, on Tuesday.

Mr. Sivanandi that if found feasible and successful, lane system would be extended up to Airport and then till city police limits. Under the system, separate lanes would be earmarked for buses, cars/private vehicles and two-wheelers.In Coimbatore Central sub-division, the City Police will introduce community policing with the help of residents.

Home maids, drivers will be provided with identity cards after verification of their antecedents. Such measures were aimed at controlling the crime rate. Mr. Sivanandi said that traffic police personnel have been instructed to be courteous to road users and avoid abusive language or highhanded behaviour.

With regard to First Information Report (FIR), Mr.Sivanandi said that public need not visit police stations and wait endlessly there. Police personnel or officials would visit the place of occurrence, scene of crime and provide FIR within half-an-hour.

In the event of any trouble in getting FIR copies, the public could inform the helpline number 94431-00101, he said.On the efforts to bridge the gap between the police and public, Mr.Sivanandi said that all the 15 police stations will adopt two children each.
