Top Pricol official injured in an Attack

A top HR official of Pricol Ltd, Periyanaickenpalayam sustained severe head injuries in an attack on Monday by a section of workers over the dismissal of 42 employees of one of its units. Roy J George, vice-president (Human Resources), was very critical and on ventilator after a major brain surgery, inquiries with a private hospital here revealed.

Apart from the police already posted at the factory, the Coimbatore Rural Police deployed huge reinforcements in and around all the units of the company that manufactures automobile components.The company on Monday issued dismissal orders to the employees of its unit at Kuniamuthur in view of the low productivity. The management had already given several warnings and show cause notices.

Irked by the orders, some of the striking employees were said to have attacked Mr. George and three other staff members with iron rods and sticks at the factory’s unit at Periyanaickenplayam.In a complaint lodged with the police, the management alleged that “outsiders” had instigated the workers.


Superintendent of Police N. Kannan said six persons, believed to be part of the group that involved in the attack, were taken into custody. Efforts were on to secure the others. Mr. Kannan said all relevant sections relating to unlawful assembly, causing grievous hurt, attempt to murder and damage to properties would be invoked against the assailants.
