According to V. Vetriselvakumar, Manager, IOC, Retail Sales of Coimbatore Division (having jurisdiction over Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris districts), the facility of train ticket booking will be extended to 21 outlets of the company in the three districts. Now it was available in six outlets. They were Vedanayagam on Mettuppalayam Road (near Saia Baba Temple), SM Oil (Gudalur Town – the Nilgiris), Sakthi Agencies-Udhagamandalam (Coimbatore Road), Lakshmi Agencies and Saravana Agencies in Tirupur and Krishna Energy in Erode Town.
The facility to book ticket was in the pipeline in 12 more such outlets and would be launched shortly on getting the IRCTC registration and digital certificate. The retail outlets get a commission from IRCTC for every ticket booked from the outlet. The outlet at Mettuppalayam road in Coimbatore and the two in the Nilgiris district were selling about 30 to 40 tickets a day. Efforts were being taken to popularise the other outlets too.
