Bandh Passed Off Peacefully

The 12-hour bandh call given by the Communist parties and trade unions in protest against the increase in petroleum prices passed off peacefully in the city without any untoward incident while the bandh call evoked a mixed response in the hosiery town of Tirupur and Mettuppalayam. Barring stray incidents of stoning two buses in Tirupur town, the bandh was peaceful, according reports reaching the district headquarters.

In Coimbatore Rural District, Tirupur witnessed response to the bandh call while more than 25 per cent response to the bandh call was reported in Mettuppalayam. Pollachi, Udumalpet, Valparai and other pockets in the district remained peaceful without even a stray incident of violence. Operation of long distance buses, town buses and rails were reported normal.
