Nearly a dozen prisoners climbed atop trees in the Coimbatore Central Prison on Monday morning in protest against they not being escorted to courts for trial and remand extension procedures. The prisoners reportedly alleged that such a trend would result in their detention going well beyond the duration of imprisonment that was due for the offence that they were charged with. The prisoners also initially went without breakfast.
