Tussor sets up unit in Coimbatore

Tussor Machine Tools (India) Pvt Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Spanish major Metallurgical Torrent SA, has set up a manufacturing facility in Coimbatore to produce both conventional and CNC integrated lathes.

The company has been marketing its products directly since 2001. The first batch of machines from the new facility would be launched in March.
Tussor would have an annual capacity of 7,000 units, which is half the size of its parent company's capacity.

Mr K. Jayaraman, Director-Yantra Engineers, which has been marketing Pinacho machines in India, said Metallurgical Torrent has invested Rs 140 crore in the project, which would be utilising the capacity also for exports to 60 countries.

With a clear 30-40 per cent production cost advantage in India, Tussor views the competitive pricing as an attraction for international market. Mr Jayaraman said India's market size for lathes of both categories is 4,000 per year. The company is looking to sell 1,200 units annually.
Yantra would be the sole distributors of Pinacho machines for India.
