Police personnel rewarded with certificates, cash
Coimbatore:Over 700 police personnel were given merit certificates and rewards for doing excellent security duty during the visit of VVIPs, including President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, on February 24 here.

At a fuction organised in this regard, the city police commissioner, C K Gandhirajan distributed certificates to 24 Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, merit certificates to 20 Inspectors, 48 sub-inspectors and 41 constables and also cash reward to 668 armed guards.
Gandhirajan also handed over cheques of retirement benefits to the relatives of three police personnel, who died while in service.
Besides, Kalam, Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi and a host of Union and State ministers were in the city on that day.
Later in an informal chat, Gandhirajan said the department has given merit certificates to 2764 personnel and rewards to 2906 constables in the last four months.
