Having won as an Independent in the 2006 civic elections, Vinodha Stanley who joined the Congress later has been nurturing her ward (No.30) systematically. In the process she has endeared herself not only to many of the local residents, but also to others including visitors who have seen her in action. While some of the residents told The Hindu on Wednesday that they were impressed with the manner in which she was taking a personal interest in enhancing various civic amenities, Ms. Vinodha said that her goal was to make her ward a model one. Stating that her immediate priority was making the streetlights serve their purpose and re-laying the important roads, she said that in phased manner she would take up other civic issues.
To a question, she said that she did not face any difficulty in getting help from the officials and added that if she was not satisfied with the quality of works being implemented in her ward she would put them on hold. The experience as a member of the self-help group movement and being associated with a non-governmental organisation stood her in good stead now. She said that afforestation programme was on the anvil in Dunmere. The Municipal Commissioner, Seeni Ajmal Khan, said that Ms. Vinodha like a few other young councillors was a go-getter.
