Vinayaka idol immersion finished peacefully
A huge Vinayaka idol being immersed in the Muthannankulam tank in the city on Wednesday.The final phase of the Vinayaka idol immersion processions passed off peacefully in the city on Wednesday amid tight security.One procession wound its way from VKK Menon Road in Gandhipuram and from Theppakulam Maidan to Muthannankulam on Thadagam Road. The first procession from Gandhipuram organised by the Hindu Makkal Katchi (Arjun Sampath and Hanuman Sena wings) and Siva Sena (Mookambikai Mani) commenced in the afternoon while the second procession from Theppakulam Maidan commenced in the evening in the presence of Hindu Munnani leader Rama Gopalan.
In view of the processions, the City Police had thrown a tight security cordon by deploying police personnel along the entire route. They formed a security ring around the convoys carrying the idols.The processions had over 95 idols. The security arrangements were under the direct supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhirajan and Deputy Commissioners of Police, P. Sugumar (Law and Order), P. Nagarajan (Crime), S. Manoharan (Traffic) and S.V. Karuppasamy (Headquarters), 16 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 30 inspectors and 70 sub-inspectors besides deployment of over 1,000 police personnel.The idols were immersed in the Muthannankulam tank late in the evening.
