1st Passport Issued
B. Balamurugan, Passport Officer, hands over the first passport to four-month-old P.S.Tanish on Wednesday. The Coimbatore Passport office formally inaugurated on Sunday, gave away the first passport on the fourth day on Wednesday to four-month-old P.S. Tanish, son of S. Somasundaram and Sathyapriya. Coimbatore Passport Officer, B. Balamurugan told said that on the first working day on September 15, the passport office received 96 applications. Miscellaneous endorsement applications are honoured on the same day and applications received on the same day are honoured by evening. Two more counters were opened on Wednesday.
Under the ordinary application category there were two counters, two for tatkal, three billing counters, two counters for separating police verification reports, two counters for indexing, two counters for verification of previous passport and application antecedents and two counters for scanning besides one counter exclusively for senior citizens, minors and disabled. Anybody having an emergency need for passport could approach the passport officer with proof of urgency and steps could be taken to expedite the issue of passport. Under the tatkal category, passports could be issued from three to seven working days and under the ordinary category seven days from the date of receipt of police verification report.
