Drive Against Violation Of Road Rules

The Transport Department during a drive against violation of road rules booked 326 cases and realised Rs 3.12 lakh as tax and compounding fee. In a release, the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran, said that vehicle checks were conducted by Regional Transport Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors and enforcement teams at seven places. A total of 2,057 vehicles were intercepted and 326 cases registered.

The offences detected included overloading of goods, overloading of persons, animals, unaccompanied luggage in omni buses, driving without driving licence, without pollution under control certificate, without insurance certificate, without fitness certificate, use of air horns, dazzling headlights, overspeeding, projecting and protruding cargo in terms of height and chassis length, and plying without paying tax. A sum of Rs 1.48 lakh was collected as tax while Rs. 1.64 lakh was collected as compounding fee. A sum of Rs. 4.88 lakh was proposed as compounding fee to be collected after adhering to procedural formalities.
