CBM Collage Students Seeks HRC Look
The Students’ Association chairman of CBM College, P. Sridhar, has requested the State Human Rights Commission to look into lack of infrastructure and amenities in the college. According to a release, the college lacked drinking water and toilet facilities, playground and computer laboratories. He also complained of lack of teachers for aided courses. The association submitted a petition to the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education on February 14, 2008 and subsequently one to the college Principal on August 26 requesting them to provide basic facilities. It sought construction of a separate water tank for potable water, more toilets and repairs to damaged laboratories.
There was also a request to appoint a physical director, a post lying vacant since 1997. It also referred to the report Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University G. Thiruvasagam had made after his visit to the college in 2007 asking the college management to provide the requirements. The students abstained from classes on September 11 and 16, and staged a road blockade on September 17 to press their demands.
